Tuesday’s school board budget study session will be aired live on Sunflower Broadband

The Lawrence school board’s budget study session at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday will be televised on Sunflower Broadband channel 26.

Board members have asked for more specific savings in regard to school closings and changing the student-teacher ratio, and a detailed list of other costs such as those spent on administration, activities, athletics and support personnel. The district faces a near $4 million gap in its 2010-2011 school year budget if base state aid per pupil and enrollment remain flat.

The study session is open to the public, but there will be no opportunity for public comment. Board members will hear information from administrators, but they won’t make any decisions.

Julie Boyle, a school district spokeswoman, said the study session will be televised due to the level of interest in the topic.
