KU women’s forward Carolyn Davis named Big 12 freshman of the week

Kansas freshman forward Carolyn Davis was selected as Big 12 freshman of the week, the conference announced Monday.

Davis, a 6-foot-3 forward from Houston, scored a career-high 20 points and also contributed nine rebounds in the Jayhawks’ 61-59 victory over Missouri on Saturday. Davis was 6-for-8 from the floor and 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.

Davis, who has started the Jayhawks’ last five games, has scored in double figures in four of those contests.

Earlier in the week, Davis recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the Jayhawks’ 75-64 victory over Colorado.

Davis averaged 15 points and 9.5 rebounds in her two games last week.

Davis is the second Jayhawk to be honored by the Big 12 this year, as senior Danielle McCray also earned Big 12 player of the week honors on Dec. 28.

KU plays host to Kansas State at 1 p.m. Sunday.
