It’s about time

I retired from the U.S. Army with more than 30 years of service. During that time, I knew of many gay service members within the ranks, and, to be truthful, their service was commendable. It was commendable not because they were gay; it was commendable because they were good soldiers, and the sexual orientation had nothing to do with their competence as a soldier. Who cared if they were gay or not if they did their job?

During my years of service, I had the privilege of three commands and I, for one, say, “It is about time this country allowed gay soldiers to serve without having to live a lie.”
