How to Help: Volunteers needed for Lawrence Free Community Christmas Day Dinner

The Lawrence Free Community Christmas Day Dinner is in need of volunteers to help prepare, serve, and deliver a community meal where all are welcome. The meal will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Christmas Day, at First United Methodist Church, 10th and Vermont streets. Volunteers are asked to come to the church anytime between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., ready to be assigned to a variety of tasks. If you have any questions, please contact Brower Burchill at 843-9199.

• The Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence is seeking volunteers who would be interested in refereeing inter-league basketball games. Basketball experience is needed. Contact Kenton Holder at 785-841-5672 for more information.

• Headquarters Counseling Center is seeking interested volunteers for its 24/7 counseling center. No previous training or experience needed; just attend one of the upcoming informational meetings on either Wednesday, Jan. 19, or Monday, Jan. 24. Both meetings run from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. at the Lawrence Public Library Auditorium, 707 Vt. • Lawrence Memorial Hospital is in search of volunteer Food and Nutrition Ambassadors. When a patient is in the hospital, these volunteers talk with patients about menu options for breakfast, lunch and dinner and provide patients with individualized attention. Food and Nutrition Ambassadors are needed from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. any day of the week. Applicants attend volunteer orientation and receive training.
