Man acquitted in Hutchinson beating death

? A Reno County jury has found a Hutchinson man innocent of murder in the beating death of another man during a drug deal.

The jury deliberated about three hours Friday before acquitting 28-year-old Jose Delacruz of first-degree murder in the April beating death of 33-year-old Joshua Haines. The jury found Delacruz guilty of aggravated robbery.

Haines’ body was found April 10 in a parked car in Hutchinson. Investigators said he was beaten when he went to an apartment to make a drug deal.

The Hutchinson News reported that Delacruz’s attorney alleged another man strangled Haines after the beating, and said there was no forensic evidence tying Delacruz to the attack.
