Westar announces tentative wind energy deal in central Kansas

? Westar Energy says it has tentative agreements to buy 369 megawatts of wind energy from two proposed wind farms in central Kansas.

Westar announced Tuesday that it will buy 201 megawatts of energy from Post Rock Wind Farm, which is scheduled to be built in Ellsworth and Lincoln counties. The utility also will buy 168 megawatts from the planned Ironwood Wind Power Project site in Ford and Hodgeman counties.

The agreements must be approved by several boards and regulators.

The new agreements would bring Westar close to meeting a requirement that it provide 15 percent of its energy from renewable sources by 2016.
