Donations sought for 2010 Christmas dinner at Lawrence’s First United Methodist Church

A group of community volunteers is still seeking donations of food for a dinner to be served on Christmas Day.

“I’m only about halfway there, I think, to what we need,” said Deb Engstrom, an event organizer.

She is looking for donations of 50 turkeys weighing about 20 pounds, along with about 40 five-pound hams. People interested in donating meat should call Engstrom at 330-3105 to arrange a drop-off by Dec. 20.

Pies for the annual dinner open to the community may also be dropped off at First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., by 11 a.m. on Christmas Day.

Meals will be served at the church between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Christmas.

“The reason I’m a little more nervous than I usually am is with the economy the way it is, we may have more people in need of a meal this year,” Engstrom said.
