To the editor:

One insert in the Sunday Journal-World earned our family’s thanks and praise. The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Departments Winter/Spring 2011 Activities Guide makes for good Sunday reading and retention for future reference. The well-organized and attractive guide has summaries and helpful details about the many recreational programs supported by our city and even includes registration forms.

In addition, its stories on the Lawrence Rotary Arboretum, the Carnegie Library renovation and the new Burroughs Creek Trail and Linear Park add interest and historical perspective to what might have been simply a listing of available resources. Particularly smart was the use of photography in the aquatics, golf and recreation instruction sections to attract our attention and tempt us to become involved.
