Bingo callers needed at Pioneer Ridge

Pioneer Ridge Assisted Living is currently seeking a bingo caller for any Thursday afternoon in September, with the exception of Sept. 23. Games will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers may sign up for one or more dates.

Immediate needs

• The Villages Inc. is in need of people who can help trim trees. The Lawrence group homes are located up a long, curved gravel driveway that is lined with overgrown trees and bushes. Ideally, a crew of 8 to 12 people could commit to a day to trim everything up. Volunteers will need to be comfortable using chainsaws, pole saws and loppers for trimming, and then haul the burnable wood to the homes and the brush to the brush pile. • The Douglas County AIDS Project is looking for volunteers to fulfill various positions:

–A receptionist volunteer whose duties will include answering phones, greeting visitors, clerical work and working on informational displays. Volunteers must be mature, responsible and and able to commit to working a regular shift for at least a month.

–Volunteers to assist with the planning and implementation of DCAP’s upcoming Art Auction. Duties will include photographing artwork and then posting the art onto the Web, throughout September and October.

–“Buddies” are needed for the Buddy Program, which is designed to provide practical and emotional support to DCAP clients through direct one-on-one interaction. “Buddy” volunteers will receive special training and must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers are asked to make a minimum of a one-year commitment and should have at least one hour available each week to spend with their buddy.

• Family Promise, which provides emergency shelter and services to families with children, is in need of volunteers for a couple of different projects.

–Folks with carpentry skills are urgently needed to help renovate two rooms in the Day Center. This is has been an ongoing project since January, and the project must be finished ASAP.

–Volunteers will be needed to help at the second annual Family Promise Auction & Golf Tournament on Sept. 19-20.
