Sunset Hill School to get new books after online drawing

Sunset Hill School will be getting $500 in new books next week, thanks to a few seconds invested last week on a computer.

Andrea Heffernan, a speech-language teacher, is one of 10 winners nationwide in a weekly drawing conducted by The Reading Warehouse, a South Carolina-based company that sells books to schools and teachers. The company has a warehouse in Olathe.

Educators enter the contest online by filling in four lines on a form: e-mail address, followed by the name, city and state of the entrant’s designated school or organization. The contest generates as many as 2,500 new accounts each week.

Sunset Hill will receive a delivery of elementary-appropriate books donated by publishers including McGraw-Hill Cos., Penguin Group USA, Random House Inc. and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt.

Heffernan entered on a whim.

“I thought, what the heck? I never win anything,” said Heffernan, who plans to designate West Junior High School on subsequent entries. “This is awesome.”

Weekly drawings continue through Sept. 30 at TheReadingWarehouse.com.
