Roundabout rules

To the editor:

I’m writing in an effort to spare other people the frustration of drivers not aware of the rules of a roundabout. Taking my children to school the other day I was confronted with one such driver. Being fully in the roundabout I had the right-of-way. The man driving the pickup didn’t agree. He pulled in front of me as I was going around the roundabout and when I threw my hands up in a way to say, “What are you doing?”, he shook his finger at me and gave me the “bobble head” display of agitation. Keep in mind he was on the phone while driving, so he had to remove his hand that he wasn’t using for the phone to shake his finger at me. Very unsafe for the children all around the roundabout.

According to KDOT rules about roundabouts, and the yield sign that he ignored, he was in the wrong. For the safety of the children that were around at the time and the safety of all other drivers, I certainly hope this man sees this letter and looks up the KDOT rules in order to familiarize himself with them. Also, for those who don’t use your turn signals when you use a roundabout, you should. That’s lined out in the rules also.
