Fitting symbol
To the editor:
How poor a job must we be doing in our public schools, our civics classes, our public square that one of our most basic and cherished freedoms — of religion — can become a political football in 2010!
An Islamic center built to bring people of many backgrounds together to learn from each other and to grow in understanding the richness of our diverse histories, heritage and cultures is no threat to our country or our citizens. Rather, two blocks from the tragic grounds of 9/11, it would become a symbol of the indomitable spirit of our vibrant democracy.
