Former newspaper editor selected for annual William Allen White Foundation citation

The William Allen White Foundation will award its 2011 annual citation to John S. Carroll, a former editor of the Los Angeles Times, Baltimore Sun and Lexington Herald-Leader newspapers.

Carroll will be presented with the citation at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 11 in Woodruff Auditorium at the Kansas Union.

The Times won 13 Pulitzer Prizes during his five years there as editor. He has also served as a reporter at the Providence Journal-Bulletin, and he has been posted to Vietnam, the Middle East and Washington while working at the Baltimore Sun.

The foundation annually awards the citation to an American journalist for outstanding journalistic service. Previous winners include columnists Leonard Pitts Jr., Molly Ivins and George Will, and reporter and editor Bob Woodward.
