Profound project

To the editor:

My thanks to Linda Klinker and her small group who, in five years, collected 4.6 million cans and recycled them to the tune of $55,000. Every cent of this went to nonprofits without going through a lot of “red tape,” just freely given at the expense of the volunteers.

Yes, it is a simple concept, yet so profound.

But I know there were a few dedicated to picking up dirty cans all over town in all kinds of weather at their own expense. And it is profound to me, as a recipient of services from Visiting Nurses, who have come to my rescue more than once.

So when I save my few cans, it comes back to me — a community effort, indeed!

Thank you, can people, for giving me a chance to be a part of your project. Reminds me of that old song, “The Best Things in Life Are Free.”
