Big Brothers Big Sisters is in need of volunteers for its “Bigs In Schools” program. Currently, there are more than 60 students on the waiting list across the Lawrence school district. Mentors meet with their “Little” at the child’s school, often during a lunch hour, once a week when school is in session. Mentors must be at least 16 years old and be able to commit to 30 to 60 minutes each week. Required orientation sessions are held at 5:15 p.m. Tuesdays and noon Wednesdays at 1525 W. Sixth St., Suite A; alternate times can be arranged by calling 843-7359.

Immediate needs

• Headquarters Counseling Center is hosting information meetings from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday and Aug. 30 at the Lawrence Public Library Gallery Room, 707 Vt. For more information, potential volunteers are encouraged to check out the website www.hqcc.lawrence.ks.us or call 841-2345.

• Trinity In-Home Care is in need of volunteers for its new “Imagine … Drop-In Childcare” program, Lawrence’s first and only drop-in child care center. All support activities will be performed on-site, including all activities normally associated with child care, plus meal preparation, music activities, crafts, etc. Contact Scott Criqui at 842-3797 for more information.

• Lawrence Memorial Hospital is in need of Food & Nutrition Service Volunteer Ambassadors. Volunteers will be assigned to a nursing unit and visit with patients about their meal selections. Shifts are available on Sunday, Monday, Friday or Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Contact Allyson Leland at 505-3141 for more information.

• Small World is in need of volunteers to support its outreach programs for international women and their children who are living in Lawrence. Potential positions include substitute lead teacher, hospitality chair, library assistant and nursery caregiver.
