Shoreline Shuffle 5K: The Lawrence Trail Hawks will host the second Shoreline Shuffle 5k Trail Run on Sept. 25 on Clinton Lake’s North Shore Trails. The race begins and ends at Shelter 4, Campground One, in Clinton Lake State Park. The marked course includes difficult rocky, root-bound trails; smooth, flat, easy trails; scenic lake views; and long shady stretches through old-growth forest. The race begins at 8 a.m., with race-day registration and check-in starting at 7 a.m. The race entry form and online registration are both available at www.Lawrencetrailhawks.com. Henrickson Tourney: The sixth-annual Bonnie Henrickson Golf Tournament will be held Saturday at Alvamar Golf and Country Club. The four-person scramble tees off at 1 p.m. The $100 entry fee includes green fee, cart, range balls, goodie bag, drinks, lunch and dinner. Competitive Softball Tryouts: Lawrence and Free State high coaches are putting together competitive softball teams for 13- to 16-year-old girls (16U and 14U divisions) for next summer. Jayhawk Golf Club Results: Mike Beaton shot a 65 to win the net portion of the Jayhawk Golf Club’s White Tee Tournament on Sunday at Alvamar. Bob Kocour (68) was second and David Hurwitz (69) third. Tyler Cummins won scratch with 68 and was followed by Van Reichert (71) and William Gantz (76).

Five Locals take Taekwondo Awards: Anton Barybin, Scott Base, Fe Brinkley, Sarah Grant and Aletha Loeb, all from the Lawrence area, earned awards at the American Taekwondo Association’s World Songahm Taekwondo Championships in June in Little Rock, Ark. Barybin earned bronze in the boys 8-10 first-degree ring. Base was fourth in forms and earned silver in weapons and was world champion in sparring in the 17-29 first-degree men’s ring. Brinkly was fourth in forms, weapons and sparring in the 17-29 second- and third-degree women’s ring. Grant was world champion in forms and sparring in the 17-29 first-degree women’s ring; and Loeb was fourth in forms in 11-13 second- and third-degree girls ring. The students train at ATA Prime Martial Arts in Lawrence.

3-on-3 Hoops League: Lawrence High girls basketball coach Nick Wood and Free State coach Bryan Duncan will be offering a 3-on-3 basketball league this fall for girls enrolled in grades 5-8. The league will be split up into a fifth/sixth-grade division and a seventh/eighth-grade division. Each team will play four 10 minute games a night. Girls basketball workouts: Lawrence High girls basketball coach Nick Wood and Free State High girls coach Bryan Duncan will host two fall basketball workouts for girls in grades 5-8.
