— Prosecutors have asked for a competency evaluation for a Kansas woman charged with killing her former boyfriend.

Howell County prosecutors have asked for the evaluation for 30-year-old Annette Cross of Lawrence, Kan.

Cross and her brother, 28-year-old Dale Cross of Hannibal, are charged with first-degree murder, first-degree arson and armed criminal action in the shooting death of 37-year-old Andrew Day. Day’s body was found inside his burned home in Mountain View on Sept. 15, 2009.

Also charged in the case were the Crosses’ mother, 53-year-old Joann Cross, and 20-year-old Kristin Smith, both of Hannibal.

The Hannibal Courier Post reports that Joann Cross pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Smith was sentenced to 10 years on the same charge.
