Event to examine John Brown legacy

“John Brown: Martyr or Madman,” a readers theater presentation with discussion, is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.

The theater will use quotes and excerpts from historical letters, affidavits and newspaper accounts to spur discussion of John Brown’s legacy in Kansas and Missouri. The discussion will be facilitated by Shawn Leigh Alexander, assistant professor of African and African American Studies at Kansas University.

The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Douglas County Historical Society, the Kansas Humanities Council and Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area.
