Judge orders man to stand trial after woman was run over with car

A judge ordered a Lawrence man to stand trial on charges of running over a woman he was having a domestic dispute with.

Delbert New III was in Douglas County District Court for a preliminary hearing Friday morning.

At the conclusion of the hearing, Judge Sally Pokorny determined there was enough evidence for New to stand trial on a charge of reckless aggravated battery.

New was arrested after police said he pushed down a woman he’d been arguing with and then drove over her with his car.

The incident happened March 7 in the 1200 block of Almira.

Prosecutors also filed an additional alternative charge of felony leaving the scene of an accident.
