Sign complaint

To the editor:

Perhaps city hall officials can explain to the citizens of Lawrence why a legitimate business with a business license cannot put up signs throughout Lawrence for an event planned at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. All signs that were put up to announce the sale were removed by the city. These signs cost $25 each, and the city will not release them.

I drive through town and see garage sale signs up everywhere on Mondays and Tuesdays for sales from the previous weekend. Why don’t you collect those signs and fine those owners if signage is not allowed? The address of the owner is right on the sign!

At a time when many people are trying to find a way to put food on the table, pay a utility bill or, heaven forbid, buy their children needed clothing and their babies equipment, why are you so against this being advertised? So, when it is time for the antique tractor sale to come to the fairground next month, are you going to take down their signs?

Shame on the sign monitor and city hall.
