FSHS baseball hammers SM South

Free State High’s baseball team clobbered Shawnee Mission South, 11-1, in a five-inning, run-rule-shortened game on Friday at Free State’s field.

Cody Kukuk, who hit a solo home run, was the winning pitcher. He struck out nine and allowed four hits in improving to 5-0.

Nick Hassig was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs. Colin Toalson was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Tim Lewis was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Kukuk was 2-for-3 with his home run, while Austin Holladay and Connor Stremel each had a double. Holladay had an RBI.

“I’m very pleased with what we did offensively. Cody was dominant,” Free State coach Mike Hill said. “I thought we controlled the game with what we did offensively. It’s been a point of emphasis. We swung the bats well, and it showed on the scoreboard.”

Free State, 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the Sunflower League, will play host to Olathe Northwest at 5:30 p.m., Tuesday.
