New York School to welcome families

New York School leaders plan several events in the next month to welcome families from Kennedy School who will attend New York, 936 N.Y., next year following a boundary change.

Board members still must give final approval to the move at their 7 p.m. Monday meeting. The East Heights Early Childhood Family Center will move to Kennedy School — necessitating the move of 65 students from Kennedy to New York. The boundary change affects students who live north of 19th Street from Bullene Avenue east to Maple Lane, and north of East Glenn Drive and west of Memorial Park Cemetery.

New York’s kindergarten roundup is at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Current kindergarten through fifth-grade Kennedy students who live in the boundary area affected will visit New York from 1:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. May 4.

Other events at New York include:

• Family reading night from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. May 11.

• A PTO trivia night on May 14 and a PTO ice cream social May 21.

• Individual tours and conferences at New York are also available by calling 832-5780, said Nancy DeGarmo,
