To the editor:

The question of where to locate emergency housing is not an easy one to address and is unlikely to ever receive unanimous approval. However, as long as the need for such services exists, we believe our community has a responsibility to provide them.

While not perfect, the proposed location for the Lawrence Community Shelter in Franklin Business Park should enable LCS to serve those who need the space, time, services and opportunity to get back onto their feet. The Franklin Business Park location appears to hold a special balance of factors that will give LCS every opportunity to be successful in its mission. We support the approval of LCS’ request for a special use permit.
