The grandchildren of Darlene Steinman Paslay are hosting a 90th birthday reception in her honor from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 17 at the United Methodist Church in Lecompton. No gifts please.

Anna and Nathaniel Marshall, Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Clara Brooke Marshall, on April 3, 2010, at Birth & Women’s Center of Topeka.

Clara has a brother, Maxx Marshall, 6, and a sister, Naomi Marshall, 3.

Her maternal grandparents are John and Mindy Huston; her paternal grandparents are Rob and Nancy Marshall; and her great-grandmother is Norma Yancey, all of Lawrence.

Tyler Kapelle, Lawrence, has been named a new junior member of the American Angus Association.

Cooper Farr, Elizabeth “Libby” McClure, and Sterling Moody, all graduates of Free State High School and seniors at the University of Colorado, were recently inducted into the university’s chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

Lawrence High School juniors, Kristen Bell, Rachel Kelly and Quenton Todd, were honored at Wichita State University’s annual Presidential Scholars Day in February. The top 10 percent of juniors from high schools across the state and other academically talented students were selected for the designation based on their scholastic achievements. Each student received a certificate and a special gift. In addition, attending students who meet appropriate deadlines, will receive $1,000 scholarships to attend WSU.

A 2009 LHS graduate, Aaron Rea played baseball April 1 for Cowley County Community College against Kansas City Kansas Community College at the Community America Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan. Rea also played on Thursday against Johnson County Community College at JCCC. Friends and acquaintances may watch his team play again at 1 p.m. May 2 at Metropolitan Community College-Longview campus in Lee’s Summit, Mo., and at 2 p.m. May 3 at Metropolitan Community College-Maple Woods campus in Kansas City, Mo.
