A 22-year-old Mission woman was taken to an area hospital Sunday after being involved in a two-vehicle accident on the Kansas Turnpike west of Lawrence.

According to reports from the Kansas Turnpike Authority, a 19-year-old Wichita woman was driving westbound on the turnpike about 3:22 p.m., closing in on the vehicle in front of her too quickly. The driver tried to swerve to avoid hitting the car but struck the vehicle; the impact caused the vehicle in front to overturn, eventually coming to rest on its side in the roadway near mile marker 198.

The 22-year-old driver was transported to an area hospital. A condition update for the woman was unavailable early this morning.

The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.

How about the simplest answer: cruise control.

Cruise control would have automatically disengaged with either the press of the brake pedal of simply pushing the button on the steering wheel.... I'll go with the others - inattention on the drivers part.
