— Connor Stremmel provided the power, blasting a two-run home run in the fifth inning to help Free State High’s baseball team pull away in a 10-1 victory over Blue Valley Northwest on Wednesday.

The Firebirds’ strong offensive showing came against a tough hurler: Missouri signee Jason Adam.

“That’s a good victory for us,” FSHS coach Mike Hill said. “We battled against a really good pitcher and played well defensively.”

Nick Hassig added a three-run double in the fifth, while Cody Kukuk picked up the win, allowing one run in 5 2/3 innings while striking out five.

Hassig and Tim Lewis led the Firebirds with two hits apiece.

Free State (3-1) will play at Leavenworth today.

Looks like we are hitting the ball just like coach was hoping for.
