Discussion to center on courthouse renovation project

The structural engineer who led the masonry reconstruction of the exterior of the Douglas County Courthouse will lead a tour of the work this weekend.

Donald McMican will answer questions and talk about renovating the Lawrence landmark. The tour is from 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday outside the courthouse, 1100 Mass.

McMican specializes in preservation work on historic structures and has also worked on Plymouth Congregational Church, 925 Vt.; the Ludington-Thatcher House, 1613 Tenn.; and the Robert Miller Home east of 19th Street and Haskell Avenue.

After the tour, organized by the Lawrence Preservation Alliance, the Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass., will be open for refreshments. At the museum, the alliance will also conduct its annual meeting, which includes board member elections.
