Alpaca Farm Day is this weekend
Kaw Valley Alpacas will participate in the third annual National Alpaca Farm Day on Saturday and Sunday.
Bruce and Macel Koerth, owners of Kaw Valley Alpacas, invite visitors to their farm from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to see the alpacas as well as alpaca fleece, yarn and finished goods. A spinning demonstration will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Some 46 alpacas live at Kaw Valley Alpacas; the Koerths own 23 alpacas and board 23 more for other owners. Two crias, which are baby alpacas, are expected by the end of October.
Kaw Valley Alpacas is at 22925 Hemphill Road off U.S. Highway 24-40 between Lawrence and Tonganoxie. Visitors can arrange to tour the farm at other times by calling ahead at 913-845-2634.
