Paint the lines

To the editor:

Yes! Your Sept. 10 editorial, “Drawing the lines,” was right on: Paint those tarred-over lane lines now. Do it before the snow flies, and start with Sixth Street. I drive Sixth several times a day but can barely make out the lines when it’s light let alone when it’s raining and/or dark. Clearly, I’m not the only one concerned with this problem.

The problem is the paint won't adhere to the tar.

"The problem is the paint won't adhere to the tar."

Yikes. "Failing to plan is planning to fail."

Let alone the layer of sand/salt left on the roads after the snow melts that the city never bothers to clean up.

I remember last winter some smartass cop cornering some girl who'd had the temerity of pulling across Mass to park on the opposite side of the road. By the time I'd parked and was walking by them on the sidewalk, I overheard him asking her, "See that line out there?" referring to the solid yellow line no doubt laying somewhere under the layer of sand in the road. I was tempted to remark as I went by (but of course did not) that perhaps the city would more wisely use his time by getting the streets cleaned up than worrying about the perfectly okay (albeit technically illegal) actions of this young girl.

I agree. If the city can't afford to keep our roads in adequate shape they need to raise the property taxes to get it done.
