Free State volleyball struggles

? The Free State High volleyball team went 0-4 on Saturday at the Mo-Kan Tournament at Lee’s Summit West.

The Firebirds lost to Lee’s Summit West (9-25, 10-25), St. Teresa’s Academy (16-25, 15-25), Blue Valley West (16-25, 15-25) and Lee’s Summit (22-25, 18-25).

“This tournament is always tough, with some of the top teams in Kansas and Missouri,” FSHS coach Nancy Hopkins said. “We’re a young team. We have only two kids that have played varsity before. They are learning they need to increase their level of intensity across the board because of the speed of the game at this level. But they’ll get there.”

Chantay Caron recorded 14 kills and 14 blocks to lead Free State. Alex Mollohan added 13 kills, and Meaghan Holmes had 12 blocks.

The Firebirds fell to 2-5 on the season.
