Offices, services to close Labor Day

Government offices and public services in Lawrence will be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day.

All city, county and state offices will be closed, as will federal offices in the general services administration and the federal courts.

Douglas County District Court and Lawrence Municipal Court will be closed.

Banks will be closed.

Lawrence Transit System buses will not run. Parking meters in downtown Lawrence will be free Monday.

The city will not collect grass and leaves, but they can be placed with regular trash pickup later in the week. Commercial collection will be completed Monday, and residential trash collection will not be affected.

The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday.

The Lawrence Workforce Center will be closed.

The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Ky., will be open from 1 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. Monday — the final public swimming day for the season. The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will be open from 9 a.m. to 7:45 p.m. for lap swimming.

The water slide and diving area will be open from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and the zero depth and children’s area will be open from 1 p.m. to 7:45 p.m.

All city of Lawrence parks and recreation facilities and the Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed Monday. There will be no recreational classes, aquatic classes, special populations activities, special events, adult or youth sports.

All city cemeteries will be open throughout the day, but the offices will be closed.

Eagle Bend Golf Course, 1250 E. 902 Road, will accept tee times from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Post offices will be closed, and the U.S. Postal Service won’t make regular deliveries Monday. UPS and FedEx also won’t make regular deliveries.

The Lawrence Senior Center will be closed, and Douglas County Senior Services, including Senior Meals deliveries, will not operate. Lawrence Meals on Wheels will also not serve meals on Monday.

The Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen will serve meals from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday. Doors open at noon.

The customer service department of the Journal-World will be open for calls and walk-ins from6 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday.

Liquor stores will be open, but they might close early.
