LiveWell Lawrence offers second meeting

LiveWell Lawrence was host of its second public meeting Thursday evening at the Holcom Park Recreation Center. More than 40 residents attended the meeting to learn about the LiveWell Lawrence initiative and to discuss ways to make Lawrence healthier.

The group is looking to bring together community organizations and individuals to help Lawrence residents improve nutrition and be more physically active. The two public meetings were the first step to learn about community concerns and possible partnerships as it looks forward to create an action plan.

Issues discussed included safety for bicyclists, affordability of fitness programs, and fitness for children beyond sports.

Marilyn Hull, program officer at the Douglas County Community Foundation, says that the task now is to “synthesize all the comments and feedback we’ve gotten and organize it into objectives we can actually go forward with.”

Within the next few months Hull hopes to have goals and action plans set and groups in place to oversee their implementation.
