Douglas County Historical Society schedules series of meetings

The Douglas County Historical Society has scheduled a series of September public meetings to gather input on the direction of the society and Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass.

Board president Dale Slusser said the meetings and an upcoming online survey are the first steps in a strategic planning process for the historical society.

The four public meetings are at 7 p.m.:

• Thursday, Sept. 10 Territorial Capital-Lane Museum, 640 E. Woodson Ave., Lecompton.

• Sept. 14, Clinton Township Hall, 1177 E. 604 Road.

• Sept. 23, Baldwin City Library, 800 Seventh St.

• Sept. 24 at the Watkins Museum.

Board members are seeking suggestions from the public on how to tell the county’s important historical stories and connect them as part of the Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area.
