The Shelter to merge with home for boys

Achievement Place Inc. and The Shelter Inc. announce their merger effective Aug. 1. The Shelter is the remaining organization. The building and assets owned by Achievement Place will become its property.

Achievement Place, incorporated in 1966, was created to provide a suitable home for boys. Because of a change in the state’s use of Medicaid funding, it ceased operations in 2007.

The Shelter, incorporated in 1981, was established to provide emergency, temporary care for adolescents removed from their homes by the courts. The program now has two facilities that together provide a total of 28 emergency, temporary-care beds, a foster care program, a juvenile-intake program and many other services for at-risk youth.
