The Roger Hill Volunteer Center is organizing its first Day of Action event for Sept. 11 and Sept. 12.

Area residents can sign up to help with various volunteer projects on both days. The event is in conjunction with the national United We Serve initiative to encourage community service in commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Projects run from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sept. 11 and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 12. Organizers said that most of the projects are two hours long, and participants can choose a project depending on their schedule and interests. In addition, a family-friendly project is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 SW Harper S.
