The Dole Institute of Politics has tapped a former Kansas City, Mo., mayor and a strategic communication expert to be Dole Fellows for the fall 2009 semester.

Kay Barnes, the first female mayor of Kansas City, and Michael McKenna, president of MWR Strategies in Washington, D.C., will lead weekly study groups at the institute.

McKenna’s group, “We’ve Got Issues,” will explore issue campaigns at 4 p.m. Tuesdays starting Sept. 15.

Barnes will lead “You Be the Mayor,” examining challenges and choices facing mayors and municipalities, at 4 p.m. Wednesdays starting Sept. 16.

The sessions, which run for seven weeks, are free and open to the public.
