Community Volunteers sought to help shovel snow

Organizers are looking for volunteers to shovel sidewalks for elderly and other Lawrence residents who are unable to remove snow themselves.

Online registration is open for people to help with Safe Winter Walkways, a program organized by the city of Lawrence and Douglas County Senior Services.

The program matches volunteers with residents needing assistance clearing snow. Volunteers are asked to visit the matched home when snow falls, throughout the winter season.

For more information or to volunteer, visit lawrenceks.org and follow the link on the “A call for volunteers” item on the home page. Volunteers also may call the Safe Winter Walkways hot line, 832-3338. For more information about having a residence added to the list awaiting volunteers, call Ashley Brinkman at 842-0543.
