A missionary who was held in captivity by a terrorist group in the Philippines for more than a year will speak Saturday in Douglas County.
Gracia Burnham, a noted speaker and author, will discuss her missionary work at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Marion Springs School, 316 E. 900 Road in Worden. The event is part of the St. John’s United Church of Christ’s Mission Festival.
She and her husband, Martin Burnham, were captured in 2001 and held for more than a year in the Philippines. He was killed in a 2002 firefight, but she survived and was released.
Burnham’s books include “In the Presence of My Enemies.”
