No new information in bicycle fatality

The investigation continues into the Friday morning hit-and-run death of Rachel Leek, but police had not released any new details as of Sunday evening.

The Journal-World/6News has received several tips from community members that someone has either turned himself or herself in for the incident, or that someone was in police custody in connection with Leek’s death. Online commenters to recent Journal-World articles about the incident have also mentioned rumors about developments in the case.

However, no one has been booked into the Douglas County Jail on charges related to the incident, and Lawrence Police Sgt. Mike Monroe said Sunday that police had no further information to release to the public. The Lawrence police have issued two news releases about the case, but neither included a description of a vehicle or driver suspected in the incident.

The Journal-World will continue to provide updates as new information is made available.
