Vanity? Please

To the editor:

Look who’s talking! George Will is accusing the Obamas of vanity (in his Oct. 7 column)? Come on!

I have read Mr. Will, always with interest and often with raised eyebrows, for many years, and I would hardly call him modest, humble, self-effacing or whatever word you care to use as the opposite of vain. It would take a better rhetorician than I am and more space than I have to describe adequately the way Mr. Will expresses his ideas. But I’m reasonably sure that most of your readers would prefer the president’s and the first lady’s verbal style to Mr. Will’s any day.

Two autobiographies by age 45 and every speech is unrelentingly self-referential.

George Will called it right.

One vote for the "verbal style" of Mr. Will.

George Will, a typical entertainer, not a journalist. Only employed for making election losers feel better about themselves and their outdated agenda.

He's a completely different guy on tv.

Pywacket...

I bet you think Bill Clinton wasn't a narcissist either...

Will is different on TV because there is someone on the panel who is as smart and articulate (eg. Paul Krugman,Bob Woodward) who exposes his bulls**t.

When thinking of George Will, remember a few years ago when some folks studied the predictions of a bunch of the major TV pundits and compared their accuracy to the guesses of Chippy the chimpanzee. Chippy, as might be expected, scored about fifty percent correct, but that was enough to beat George Will. So yes, when it comes to US and world affairs, George Will is dumber than a chimp.

Bulletin! Bulletin! The President of the United States has a huge ego. Name the last one that didn't. Nixon? Clinton? Reagan? Carter? Bush or Bush Jr? Please. They all have/had huge egos. It's a requirement even to run for the office. One might offer up Ford, since he was appointed, not elected, but I'm guessing even he had a healthy respect for his own opinions. And yes, so does George Will.

Yes, but some egos are bigger than others (See Bill Clinton).
