Historic mark

To the editor:

Martin Luther King Jr. led a nonviolent resistance to racism for nine years before receiving his Nobel Peace Prize. Mother Teresa cared for the poor and dying for 31 years before receiving her Nobel Peace Prize. Nelson Mandela spent 41 years fighting apartheid — 27 years in prison — before receiving his Nobel Peace Prize. Barack Obama was in office for less than two weeks before being nominated for his Nobel Peace Prize.

A historic moment indeed.
