Kansas Jayhawk fans will want to bring more than just spirit to today’s homecoming game against the Iowa State. A jacket and gloves will definitely come in handy.
“We are under a freeze warning (on Friday night),” 6News Meteorologist Matt Elwell said.
The forecast predicts temperatures will be a little warmer for the thousands of KU fans heading out to see Gale Sayers lead the homecoming parade at 9 a.m.
Elwell said temperatures will stay in the upper 30s for most of the morning, meaning blankets, jackets, gloves or any other warm clothing will be necessary. There’s some good news: There will be little to no wind.
But it’s Kansas. And things change.
By the 11:30 a.m. kickoff, Elwell said, the wind will pick up to almost 15 mph. Temperatures, meanwhile, will climb into the upper 40s.
“This is typical football weather,” Elwell added. “It’s just not going to be warm tomorrow.”
The weather won’t keep the KU faithful home.
“I’ll be going to the game,” KU alum David Johnston says. “Or rather: Of course, I’ll be going to the game. I’ve been going since I was a child. In fact, I can’t remember the last one I missed.”
Johnston, the director of Internet services and marketing for the KU Alumni Association, says the weather isn’t his biggest worry. His wife is expecting their third child any day.
“We are hoping that the baby will not decide to arrive during the game,” Johnston says, “but if necessary, we’ll go straight from the stadium to (Lawrence Memorial Hospital).”
Johnston advises other families to pack stadium blankets and bundle up for the game.
“There’s no place I’d rather be on a fall day in Lawrence, Kansas.”

“There's no place I'd rather be on a fall day in Lawrence, Kansas” - well-stated indeed, as you've thus by definition excluded Arrowhead Stadium.

Today's weather was God's punishment for moving the Missouri game.
