Higuchi lectures scheduled Thursday

Gilead Sciences CEO John C. Martin’s two Higuchi Memorial Lectures on the Kansas University campus are scheduled for this week.

Gilead Sciences, a biopharmaceutical company, has developed treatments for viral diseases, including a single tablet taken once a day for the treatment of AIDS.

A scientific lecture, “A Brief History of Nucleotide Arrivals,” is scheduled for 9 a.m. Thursday in the Simons Laboratories Auditorium.

A lecture intended for the general public, called “Ensuring Access to HIV Medications in the Developing World: An Industry Perspective,” is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Simons Laboratories Auditorium.

Martin is the 11th Takeru Higuchi Memorial lecturer. The lecture series honors Higuchi, a regents professor of pharmacy and chemistry at KU who died in 1987.
