An upcoming 5K fundraiser at Clinton Lake will serve as a training ground for a dozen students at the Army’s Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth.

The students — majors in the Army, Air Force and Marines, plus an officer from Malawi in West Africa — are scheduled to take part in the Clinton Fire Department Auxiliary’s 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk, set for 9 a.m. Oct. 24 at Bloomington Beach at Clinton Lake.

Aside from a chance to compete, the event gives the students an opportunity to interact with participants, supporters, organizers and others in a community-outreach capacity. Students from the college also participated in last year’s event.

Proceeds from the run and fun walk will benefit the fire department.
