Free State rolls, 49-0

The Free State High football team’s roll has officially reached a fevered pace.

After dropping the opening game of the season at Olathe East, the Firebirds have snapped off four straight victories, the latest coming in most impressive fashion Friday at FSHS.

After jumping out to a first-quarter lead of 14-0, the Firebirds continued to pour it on. At halftime, Free State led 35-0. By game’s end, the final margin was 49-0.

Free State racked up 496 yards of total offense, 445 of those coming on the ground. Tailback Kirk Resseguie ran for 201 yards and QB Camren Torneden ran for 152 more. Torneden also threw a touchdown pass and returned a punt for a touchdown.

Free State, which improved to 4-1, did not punt in the game.

Next up, the Firebirds will play host to Olathe North in a rematch of last year’s epic playoff matchup between the two schools. Free State won that one, en route to advancing to the Class 6A state title game.
