Two treated at hospital after fight outside Cadillac Ranch

Two people were treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital for injuries they sustained during a fight outside the Cadillac Ranch Thursday morning.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl, officers received a call about 1:30 a.m. of a fight in progress in the parking lot outside The Ranch, 2515 West Sixth St.

Multiple people were involved in several small fights, although Hadl said a definite number couldn’t be determined after viewing surveillance video of the five-minute incident.

During the fight, a 22-year-old Eudora man suffered a broken jaw after being punched in the face. The victim was transported by ambulance to Lawrence Memorial Hospital where he was treated and later released. Officers interviewed the victim, who said he was trying to break up one of the fights when he was struck. He said he did not see who hit him.

A 33-year-old Lawrence woman drove herself to LMH after she was inadvertently struck during the incident. The woman told officers she had been near someone involved in the fight when that person was punched. The struck man started to fall and as he did, he ended up hitting the woman. She received stitches at the hospital.

Officers took control of the scene shortly after arrival and arrested a 22-year-old Eudora man on charges of battery and disorderly conduct. Hadl said the man also had several outstanding warrants, some of which were for similar incidents.

Police also located a vehicle that was reportedly related to the incident. The vehicle left the scene before officers had arrived. The owner of the vehicle would not speak with officers.

Hadl said police had not determined who struck the man who suffered the broken jaw. She said officers would continue to interview witnesses and review security video to gather more information.
