Going soft?

November 23, 2009

To the editor:

I believe KU will go “soft” without Coach Mangino. He pushes his players. He could learn better interpersonal skills. and he definitely seems to qualify for anger management therapy, but treating those players like they are in high school does not make a good football team. Mangino means business. Period. That is what makes him the great coach he is. KU would be crazy to get rid of him.

What makes Mangino a "great coach", using your own words? The fact that we go from the Orange Bowl to a season of probably 7 losses with essentially the same offensive weaponry is abysmal.

All of this is a coach's fault. Either recruiting failed, ability to adjust to how the Big 12 defensives have evolved is lacking, or our ability to simply call the right plays at the right time is faltering. All of this is purely the coach's fault.

Again I ask, why is he a great coach? I'd posit that Mangino has risen as far as he ever will at KU. I'd vote for new blood to take the program to the next level.

It's nothing personal...business.
