Independence Inc., Lawrence, announces the election of officers for the organization’s board of directors.

Elected to one-year terms that run through the end of September:

• Boog Highberger, an attorney for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and former Lawrence city commissioner, president.

• Cathy Knight, regional vice president for RehabCare, first vice president.

• Clay Kucza, a retired auto salesman, second vice president.

• Erin WilliamsLea, a disability rights advocate, secretary.

• Karen McGrath, branch manager for Sunflower Bank, treasurer and chair of the board’s Finance Committee.

Also serving on the board are Edward Canda, Paula Gilchrist, David Jones, Craig Nowatzke and Carol Seivley.

Independence Inc. is an independent living center that provides advocacy, services and education for people with disabilities in the community.
