Don’t ban it

To the editor:

Are couples of the same sex capable of raising a child? Florida and Utah don’t believe so. In those states, it’s illegal for same-sex couples to adopt a child. In the other 48 states it’s legal, but it may not be easy. Same-sex couples have to dive through loopholes to be able to adopt. This generally takes a considerable amount of time compared with a heterosexual couple.

Think about this: Those children not adopted are raised in foster homes, several changing from home to home within a short period of time. The instability these children may experience could have a serious negative impact on their lives. Why not allow those children to grow up with two loving parents?

Let’s not let Kansas ban same-sex adoption. If a couple wishes to raise a child, let them. Create opportunities that allow same-sex couples to become a family easier.
