Help lined up for Thanksgiving dinner

The Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen will be serving a Thanksgiving meal at First Christian Church, 10th and Kentucky streets, on Nov. 26. Volunteers are needed to help prepare, deliver, and serve meals.

Immediate needs

• The Roger Hill Volunteer Center has several volunteer opportunities for families coming up. Family Volunteer Day is Saturday, and volunteers are needed for projects at Schwegler School, Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community, and Stepping Stones Daycare. The service projects will be going on from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and children of all ages are welcome. For more information, contact Emily Hampton at programs@rhvc.org or 865-5030.

• The Lawrence Arts Center is hosting a present wrapping party for its upcoming Holiday Toy Shop, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. About 20 volunteers are needed. If you are available to help out, contact Jenny at 843.2787 or lacvolunteer@sunflower.com.

• Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is seeking hospice volunteers to serve patients and families in the following ways:

Hospice patient volunteer: Work directly with patients and their families by providing companionship, respite care, and/or relief for the primary caregiver. No medical knowledge is necessary.

Hospice massage volunteer: Previous training/work in massage therapy is required, and volunteers must be able to work around patients’ physical restrictions and understand contraindications. The time requirement is flexible.

Hospice hairstylist/barber: Provide occasional in-home haircuts for our hospice clients. Volunteers must have professional skills and own equipment.
